The olympic games were always in the center of interest both in the ancient world as well as in the modern one. It is assumed that the date of the first olympic games is the year 776 B.C.. Since then there are scientifically documented records of the winners of respective competitions. We have also evidences that all the life of the man of those days was saturated with the spirit of sport. The antique games survived 12 centuries. They have been cancelled by emperor Teodozjusz the Great in year 393 A.D. And so it was up to 1896 when the idea of the games revived and the first modern olympic games have been organized in Athens. Since this time ensues in a form adapted to modern conditions their splendid revival. It is noticed by the post administrations. Stamps having sport as a subject enjoy a great interest of the philatelists, who the greatest esteem have for olympic stamps.

The first Polish olympic stamps have been issued on the occasion of the XVI games in Melbourne. Among them comes one of the most expensive and most in request Polish stamps so called "inversion" of boxing. We have also olympic stamps honoured for they beauty by international bodies. During the 115 session of IOC Polish Post received the award "Prix Olympia Gold Medal" for a stamp commemorating the games in Salt Lake City. Since 1956 Polish Post has issued almost 140 olympic stamps.

The return of the games to Athens rouses many associations of ideas and thoughts. Have them also the designer of the presented stamps building his conception as an artistic bracket biding together the ancient and the present. Judge yourself what result it gave.

On the day of introductions of the stamps into post circulation will be in sale an FDC with special cancellation in use at the Post Office Warszawa 1.

For the Singapore Post the Championships will be occasion to celebrate 150th anniversary of issue of the first Singapore post stamp.

Polish Post has prepared a special philatelic value commemorating this event - a post stamp in form of a souvenir sheet. The author of the designe the artist Ewa Libere was inspired by Chinese horoscope and classic Chinese literature. An old Buddyst legend tells that Budda summoned before him all the creatures. To the meeting came: the rat, the buffalo, the tiger, the cat, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the cock, the dog and the pig. As a reward Budda offered to each of these twelve animals a successive year.

The current year , which according to the Chinese horoscope has started on the 22 January is the year of the monkey. On the given post stamp in form of a souvenir sheet has been presented the king of the monkeys - Sun Wu - k'ung, the nobel rebel, defender of the poors and oppressed, a personage descending from Chinese classic literature.

The entrance of Poland into United Europe is a crucial event in the history of our country that crowns the difficult period of labour conforming our economical and socio-political system to European standards. From 1 May 2004 open for Poland quite new perspectives, appear chances for a faster development and improvement of the level of life.

Polish Post has prepared a special occasional philatelic value illustrating the process of enlarging of the European Union. We wanted to underline the standing of this event giving to the presented issue a special form - a post stamp with a tablet. On the stamp is presented the map of Europe where the states of United Europe are marked in dark blue color and in light blue the states joining UE. Along the left and right margin of the stamp are placed the flags of the states joining UE - in the order they have been mentioned in the Accession Treaty - Czech Republic, Estonia Republic, Cyprus Republic, Latvia Republic, Lithuania Republic, Hungary Republic, Malta Republic, Slovenia Republic, Slovakia Republic and in the right down corner - Polish Republic. An experienced eye of a philatelist will certainly spot still another novelty, in the place the traditional inscription Polska has been put the inscription Rzeczpospolita Polska /Polish Republic/.

The inserted in the left upper corner of the stamp the blue flag with twelve gold stars is obviously the flag of United Europe. The quantity of stars is constant and does not increase with the acception of new members. The authors of the designe of the flag were: a Spanish diplomate Salvador de Madariaga y Rojo and a French artist designer Arsene Heitz. During years there was a contention what are symbolizing the stars - hours, months, apostles or maybe perfection?. Heitz disclose the secret only on the deathbed. There is the same quantity of stars as over the head of Our Lady.

In this place it is good to mentione about another symbole of United Europe - the hymn which is "The Ode to Joy" from the IX Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven. The composition is most often executed on the feast-day of United Europe. So already on the 9th of May we will listen "The Ode" as members of the European family with full rights

Easter Holyday is traditionally the time when we want to share traditionally the joy of the Resurrection sending letters and post cards to our families and friends. Polish Post trying to give to the holyday correspondence a special expression is preparing special Easter issues of post stamps. This year issue links to the traditional folk symbolism. In the Easter basket and on the holyday tables appears usually with eggs, horse-radish, butter and meat products also the rabbit and the lamb.

The history of the little rabbit as one of the numerous Easter symbols is long and full of various interpretations. Without any doubt however it can be stated that the best accepted, not only by children, are chocolate rabbits. In some regions of the country is still vivid the tradition to bestow gifts which naturally are brought by the Easter rabbit.

The little lamb is the most significant symbol of the Easter Holyday, personify the victory of Jesus Christ, who as the oblation lamb gave his life for human beings then to Resurrect and to win over the sin, the evil and death. Most often the lamb is presented with a banner as well as the figure of the Resurrected Christ.

Next city that we want to present in the issue set "Polish Towns" is Lublin. The city is picturesquely situated on the Lublin upland, in the valley of the river Bystrzyca. The city is considered as one of the most beautiful towns in Poland because of the beauty of its original architectural monuments, rich history and the ambiancy of a city situated on a borderland of cultures and religions.

For the inhabitants of the city, proud of the fact that it is precisely in Lublin that in year 1569 has been concluded the Lublin Union it will be also a beautiful crowning of the motto "From Lublin Union to European Union".

The obelisk has been erected in 1826 at the initiative of Stanislaw Staszic. An important element of the monument is the gold bass-relief carved by Pawel Malinski, which present the allegory of the Republic of Both Nations : Polish Kingdom and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, in the shape of two women joining their hands in a friendly handshake.

On the second plan there is a fragment of the Lublin Castle, where during the session of the diet /sejm/ 1569 the king had meetings with the deputies and here took place the ceremony of vowing of the Lublin Union.
