Polish Post through its philatelic issues has attended upon the Holy Father John Paul II from the beginning of his pontificate. On numerous post stamps, post cards with overprinted postage sign and special cancellations, have been recorded events linked with the pastoral service of John Paul II, creating his philatelic chronicle. They show the Pope as a persistent pilgrim bearing the word about God’s Charity, bringing console to the suffering people, statesman breaking political and religious barriers, appealing for peace.
The presented to you post stamp will be introduced into post circulation on the day of our farewell with Holy Father – the 8 of April 2005. The stamp show the effigy of John Paul II, the work of the graphic artist Waldemar Swiezy.

The falling this year 200th anniversary of the birth of the Danish fairy-tales writer and prose writer Hans Christian Andersen Polish
Post will commemorate by the issue of two special post stamps , marking this way Polish Post presence in the celebrations in the whole world
of the Year of in a modest family of a shoemaker. He was brought up by his grandmother who was telling him fairy-tales. Many themes of
grandmother’s stories appeared later in the works of the writer.
Andersen made his debut in 1822 with a set of works “Juvenilia”. His first set of fairy-tales entitled “fairy-tales
spinned to children” appeared in 1835. The writer now famous and esteemed first of all for his fairy-tales at the beginning was not
treating his writing for children seriously. He wanted to be famous as an author of works for grown up people. The success of the first
volume, however stimulated him to issue farther volumes. In total he has issued 150 fairy-tales. The source of inspiration for the writer
was folkore like in “The flint” and “Swineherd”, the Spain tradition like “The new garments of the emperor”.
In many tales the fate of the main heroes were a metaphor of the life of the writer. As the most autobiographical of his work is considered
“The ugly duckling”. The writer himself summed up the tale with the words: “It is not important that I was born in a duck
back-yard; important is that I was hatched from a swan egg”.
Besides the fairy-tales to Andersen’s literary output comes novels like for instance: “ The book with pictures without pictures”,
“ the two barons’ daughters”, “Peter the lucky blighter”, libretto to the national opera “The little
Kristen”. Andersen’s works have been many times translated to Polish among other by S. Beylin, J. Iwaszkiewicz, F. Mirandola and
W. Syrokomla. On the presented to you post stamps have been shown two popular fairy-tales: “The little mermaid” and “the
Queen of the Snow”.

The period of Easter Holidays is the traditional time when our clients want to give wishes of all the best to their families and friends in
the country as well as abroad. Among rnany modern Information tragers still the post card and letter is the very popular and expected by
people form of transmission of compliments. Maybe because to receive some nice wishes put personally on a colour post card gives to our
rushed life more warmth and joy then the SMS or e-mails which we use everyday.
Polish Post preparing itselsf to this exceptional time makes all possible efforts to deliver the wishes as fast as possible to the
addressees. An important element of the holiday correspondence is the post stamp. Starting from 1997 Polish Post issues special, souvenir
post stamps linked by the subject with Easter. On the stamps of this set have been presented art works with sacral subjects, traditional

It has became already a tradition that Polish Post prepares for the Valentine day a special issue of a post stamp assigned for people who
through a post card or letter want to express their feelings. The day of enamoured or the Valentine day is on the whole world celebrated on
the 14 February. This relatively new habit in Polish customs has gained already many devotees not only among youth why Love and be loved it
is like the sun would be heating us from both side /D. Viscott/.
First the English started to celebrate the day of enamoured. They have started also the custom of sending the Valentile Day cards. The
choice of the date 14 February is also not accidental because according to the folk tradition just in this day on the British Islands the
birds couple.
The presented post stamp is not only exceptional because it was created for the Valentine Day. I would like to draw the attention of our

The falling in 2005 anniversary of birth of Mikolaj Rej Polish Post commemorates by a special issue of a post stamp. This way Polish Post
participates in the calendar of ceremonies dedicated to this outstanding writer. Mikolaj Rej called the father of Polish literature was born
in Zurawno at the river Dniestr in 1505. According to a contemporary to him biographer it happened during the Shrovetide that is, subject to
the method of counting, the 28 January or 4 February. The writer took an active part in the political life of the country as a deputy to the
diet /parliament/. Included to the top activists of the camp of religious Reformation he took often part in the Calvinist synods. He founded
in his properties Protestant communities and schools. He was supporting the Reformation also in his works for instance in the popular
collection of sermons " The Lord's Postil", in the coments to " Apocalipsis", "The Life of Joseph" and also in
the pious songs to the melodies of the composer Waclaw from Szamotuly.
Mikolaj from Naglowice was giving in his creation many place to the social transformations in the country among other in his work "A
short debate between three people: the Lord, the Chief of the Village and the Vicar" and in the "Mirror". He presented the
picture of the world of landlords and also farmers from the point of view of a humanist in his work " The proper picture of a
kind-hearted man".
The presented on the post stamp the effigy of Mikolaj Rej is patterned following the picture of the writer put on an old print "The
Mirror" dated 1568.

The presented post stamp is dedicated to the 100 anniversary of birth of Konstanty Ildefons Galczynski, one of the most outstanding and very
popular poet of the XX century. K.I. Galczynski was born the 23rd January 1905 in Warsaw. He made his debut in 1923 with a verse "Assault"
published in the newspaper "Rzeczpospolita".
The special feature of Konstanty Ildefons Galczynski was an original connection of lyricism, personal reflection and mythical character with
burlesque and satire. The poet manipulates naturally with various conventions, passing from the lyricism of simple emotions, f. e. in the
poems praising the charms of family life, natureand erotica to burlesque, sneer and absurd joke.
In the years of the II World War have been writen by him popular patriotic poems among others "Song about the soldiers of
Westerplatte", "Song about the Banner", "The Dream of the Soldier". "Holy Mother of Prison Camps",
refering to religious-prayer motives. The post war period it is the time of intensive co-operation of the poet with a well-known magazine
from Cracow "Przekroj" in which have been published the series "The Green Goose", "The Letters with the Violet"
and many poems - and among them the very well known like "Return to Euridica", Th Ear-rings of Izolda" and "the Magic
Cab. At the decline of his life on the first plan came the thematic trend linked with the role of art, for instance in the poems "The
Death of Andersen", "The Easter of John Sebastian Bach", in the poem "Niobe".

In 2003 Polish Post has issued a post stamp and a post stamp in form of a block /souvenir sheet/ which commemorated the 750 years
anniversary of the location of the city of Poznan. In 2005 Poznan will be again presented on the post stamp, this time on the current issue
"Polish Cities".
On the presented post stamp has been presented the monument of Hygea on the background of the classitistic building of the Raczynski Library.
The library has been founded and donated to the nation by Edward count Raczynski. The opened on the 5 May 1829 Library has been one of the
first public library in Poland.
On the day of introduction of the stamp into post circulation will be in sale an FDC with special cancellation in use at the Post Office
Poznan1 on which has been presented a excerpt of the inside of the Poznan City Hall. The First Day Postal Circulation date marker which will
be in use at the Post Office Poznan 1, presents the arms of the city Poznan patterned on a woodcut set at the Postil of Jacob Wujek from
1582.
