Founded in 1925, the Kosciuszko Foundation
is dedicated to promoting and strengthening understanding and
friendship between the
peoples of Poland and the United States through educational, scientific
and cultural exchanges and other related programs and activities. It
awards fellowships and grants to graduate students, scholars,
scientists, professionals and artists and helps to increase the
visibility and
prestige of Polish culture in America’s pluralistic society by
sponsoring exhibits, publications, film festivals, performing art such
as concerts and recitals, and assists other institutions with similar
goals.
The New Kosciuszko Foundation Dictionary has
been compiled by a team of lexicographers at Poznań’s Adam Mickiewicz
University.
The editor-in-chief of the 20-strong team is Professor Jacek Fisiak,
founder of the Poznań school of English Studies, a teacher of many
generations of English scholars, editor of international linguistic and
philological journals, author and editor of over 150 publications,
including six English-Polish and Polish-English dictionaries
